Featuring songs from Tony Award winning musicals such as Spring Awakening, Rent, Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors, and Hair, SONGS OF PURPLE SUMMER is a trip through the history of edgy, rock ‘n’ roll musicals.
Co-directed by Aside board members and Woodlands High School Graduates, Diane Goldsmith and James Canfield, SONGS OF PURPLE SUMMER is not your normal theatre experience. A collection of songs that fuses music, dance, and acting together in an intimate setting with little staging, few set pieces, and minor costuming, SONGS OF PURPLE SUMMER is about the performances.
With musical direction by Austin Hunt, the songs and performances communicate what its like to be an adolescent in our day and age, what its like to fall in love, what its like to stand up for what you believe, and most importantly, what it’s like to have a great time.
