Fans to post home the “Ashes”.

For the England – Australia clash at Lord’s starting on 16th July, fans can take home some very special souvenir postage stamps. In association with Bletchley Park and the Isle of Man Post Offices the MCC is releasing the stamps to commemorate the 2009 Ashes Series.

The special stamps and their first day covers feature the work of cricket artists Christina Pierce and Karen Neale, in addition to that famous little urn. Sets of 5 covers issued for the 2005 Ashes series now fetch over £500 each. A good investment based on the original £10 issue price of these little pieces of cricket art and history.

The stamps are available in an “Ashes” presentation pack and first day cover at £5. But for a little more you can acquire a limited edition stamp and cover featuring a painting from the MCC art collection of a match at Brisbane Cricket Ground. At those prices they should disappear faster than a Brett Lee delivery.

The stamps and covers will be available on the day from the MCC Museum. They can also be viewed and ordered from the MCC section of the web site at www.bletchleycovers.com. Write to BPPO, The Mansion, Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes MK 3 6EB, UK or call +44 1908 637797/272690 for more information.

Note to Editors: Jpegs of stamps and covers available as required.

Bletchley Park is best known for its wartime links with the enigma code breakers. But the tiny post office that was once an undercover mailroom has been issuing stamps and first day covers for the MCC since 2004. On big match days at Lord’s fans queue up to get these limited edition little pieces of cricket art and history.
