McCain Plan Would Drive Up Costs And Put Insurance Companies In Charge
Health care experts and leaders will hold a news conference call on Tuesday to
respond to Sen. John McCain's major policy speech on health care. Yale
University professor Jacob Hacker and AFL-CIO political director Karen
Ackerman will join Campaign for America's Future co-director Roger Hickey to
deliver statements and answer questions on the call.
Sen. McCain's plan would push employers to drop health care coverage they
currently provide and force tens of millions of Americans to fend for coverage
on their own with inadequate tax credits. With health care costs rising three
times faster than wages, analysts predict Sen. McCain's plan would put
insurance companies in charge, increase costs and create chaos in the health
care market.
Hickey is one of the leaders of a new coalition working to fix our broken
health care system. Hacker is the author of the "Health Care for America"
plan, which Sens. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards used as the
basis for their health care proposals. And Ackerman is leading a major AFL-CIO
campaign to outline the devastating impacts of Sen. McCain's health care plan
to millions of voters nationwide.
