Both of Williams’ previous films I have found very enjoyable, ‘London to Brighton’ being a tense gangster thriller and ‘The Cottage’ being an over-the-top gore-comedy show me that he can probably put his hand to just about anything and a big, dumb zombie movie would be right up his alley.
However, recent reports are coming through that Danny Boyle (creator and director of 28 Days Later) might want to come back on board to direct the latest installment.
"I’d certainly like to,” Boyle said in a group interview on Nov. 6 in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting his latest film, Slumdog Millionaire. “I feel the idea is quite a strong idea, and it could well involve directing it. Yeah, absolutely."
I loved the first 28 film. It redefined the zombie genre and created a very real sense of dread. However, I loathed the second film with a passion. It is one of the few films I have considered walking out of. For me it felt like absolute drivel [are you sure? - ed.], and I can only imagine that the natural progression for the series is to go bigger and dumber. However, if Boyle can reign it in somehow and give the film the claustrophobic, paranoid feel he was so good at with ‘28 Days’, ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Shallow Grave’ maybe the film will turn out to surprise me.
