Armenia Chess Olympic Champion, Defends Title

In the final round of the 38th Chess Olympiad that took place in Dresden today the national team of Armenia defended their leading title while playing against the chess team of China and became the winners of the 38th Chess Olympiad.

Heading into today's eleventh and final round of the Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Armenia, the defending champion, was tied with Ukraine, the previous champion. Israel and China were only a match point behind.

Today Armenia faced China while Ukraine took on the United States.

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan left for Dresden to be present at the final round of the Chess Olympiad.

What Wimbledon is for tennis, the Tour de France for cycling or the World Cup for soccer fans - such is the Chess Olympiad for the world of chess fanatics.

Tigran Petrossyan won the chess game against Li Chao. Vladimir Akopyan and Levon Aronyan broke even. At this point Sargsyan Gabriel has not finished his game, but it will not effect the results as with points Armenia is ahead and is the champion of the 38th Chess Olympiad.

Indeed Armenia has become a power house of chess players. Armenia has won the Chess Olympiad in two consecutive times and has given World Chess champions such as Gary Kasparov and Tigran Petrosyan.
