
The mother of the current U.S. president George W. Bush Mrs. Barbara Bush is hospitalized in Texas in a Houston hospital. She complained of a "little bit of pain" and was rushed to hospital last night. In her White House years Barbara Bush had revealed that she had suffered from Graves disease.
According to Mayo Clinic Graves' disease is the most common form of hyperthyroidism. It occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your thyroid gland and causes it to overproduce the hormone thyroxine. Graves' disease is rarely life-threatening. Although it may develop at any age and in either men or women, Graves' disease is more common in women and usually begins after age 20. It is not known if this may be the cause of Barbara Bush being hospitalized.
When Barbara Bush was hospitalized according to LA Times former president and her husband George H.W. Bush, was with her and their son, the outgoing president George W. Bush, was notified.
Barbara Bush had reported stomach pains in recent days, which did not dissipate. Tuesday evening she felt worse, phoned her husband's office and asked him to take her to the hospital.
The couple's Secret Service detail rushed both to Methodist Hospital.
During her White House years Mrs. Bush revealed that she suffers from Graves disease, an overactive thyroid condition that causes blurred vision and teary eyes. It was not known if that condition is related to her current difficulty.
ABC news reports that Barbara Bush's condition that caused her being hospitalized Tuesday night is not life threatening. "The Bush spokesman tells ABC News that all of the tests have come back negative, but did not say what doctors were testing for. Methodist Hospital sources say that Mrs. Bush's condition is not life threatening."
