While the residents are waiting for the DDA Delhi Housing Scheme 2008 results from Delhi Development Authority that are to come out Tuesday, 9,800 houses for slum dwellers ready for allotment in Delhi.

Over 9,800 houses built under Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna are ready for allotment in the national capital.

The houses, 9,817 in number, have been constructed in Bawana, Ghoga, Narela, Baprola and Bhorgarh by Delhi State Industrial and Investment Development Corporation (DSIIDC) and are meant for slum dwellers and urban poor.

These houses built under a scheme of Delhi government are fire and earthquake resistant, said DSIIDC Managing Director Manoj Parida.

The housing scheme, which was launched in September 2007 by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, will be alloted by Urban Development Ministry of the Delhi government.

"In fact, finalisation of allotment was withheld due to model code of conduct in view of assembly polls," a DSIIDC official said, adding government will allot these houses shortly and also provide additional land to the agency to build more such houses.

The Delhi government has chosen DSIIDC to construct these houses using new cost saving technology.

A meeting has been called by Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta on Monday to make more land and funds available to DSIIDC, the official said.
