Israel: Forces bomb terrorist installations in the Gaza Strip

The airforce has launched a wide air attack on Hamas installations in the Gaza Strip. Both F-16 fighter planes and helicopters were involved.

Palestinain witnesses say that at least 30 installations have been targeted among them Hamas police compounds, government buildings and the Gaza port. Some 140 are reported killed and over 200 wounded.

The IDF issued a statement following the raids, saying that it would continue its operations against terror in accordance with constant status assessments by the IDF Chief of General Staff. This operation will be continued, expanded and intesified as much as required.

The targets that were attacked were located by intelligence gathered during the past months and include Hamas terror operatives that operated from the organisation's headquarters, training camps and weaponary storage warehouses.

Israel is ready to step up its military assault in the Gaza Strip , an aide to defence minsiter Ehud Barak said . "The operation will be pursued and widened as required and subject to assessments. We are facing a period that will not be simple or easy," he said.

The army is requesting that all residents in Israeli communities surrounding the Gaza strip should stay in their security rooms.Magen David Adom teams are on the highest alert in the south of the country and have also raised their alerts in the rest of the country.
