Barak declares all out war against Hamas, operation will intensify

Defense Minister of Israel Ehud Barak declared that Israel was in an "all-out war against Hamas." Speaking in Monday morning's special Knesset session on the war, Barak said, "We have nothing against Gaza residents but we are engaged in an all-out war against Hamas and its proxies."

Barak said the operaton would continue and even intensify. He did not give details.

"We will avoid as much as possible hitting civilians, while the people of Hamas and other terrorists deliberately hide and operate within the civilian population. We do not want to hit children and women and we will not prevent humanitarian aid from reaching Gaza residents", Barak said.

Barak also said Israel holds Hamas responsible for the fate of captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. He said Hamas has an interest in keeping Shalit safe and Israel will do everything possible to bring him back home safe and sound.

Opposition leader Binyamin Netanyaha said what is required at this juncture is unity. He was repeatedly heckled by Arab Knesset members.
