Pitt (14-0) became the No. 1 team for the first time in school history, moving up two spots from No. 3 after then-No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels (13-1) lost at home to unranked Boston College Eagles and then-No. 2 Connecticut Huskies (12-1) lost at home to then-No. 8 Georgetown.
On Saturday, Pitt defeated Georgetown on the road as Dejuan Blair scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, snapping the Hoyas' 29-game home winning streak.
Pittsburgh received 30 of 31 first-place votes as the Tar Heels received one vote after moving to No. 3. UNC's archrival Duke Blue Devils (12-1) moved up to No. 2. Wake Forest Demon Deacons move to No. 4 as UConn rounds out the top five.
Oklahoma Sooners (13-1) is sixth, followed by Texas Longhorns (11-2) and UCLA Bruins (12-2) in a tie for seventh, Syracuse Orange (14-1) and Georgetown (10-2) to round out the top ten.
Besides Pitt, the other undefeated Division I men's teams are Wake Forest (13-0), Clemson (14-0) and Illinois State (14-0). Wake plays host to North Carolina on Sunday.
Gonzaga Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines dropped out of the poll. Butler Bulldogs, West Virginia Mountaineers and Boston College moved into the top 25.
