Barack Obama Retakes Oath Of Office In Unusual Move

The 44th president of the United States Barack Obama today in a very unusual move retakes the oath of office as the yesterdays oath taking did not go smooth because of mixing up the words. Today as I was watching the Russian news on official Channel One it was reported that some lawyers had apparently said they will start legal proceedings if the oath is not retaken.

Obama retakes the oath of office of the presidency after yesterday's mix-up of words. According to CNN the second time Obama took the oath of office in the White House at 7:45 PM today, Wednesday, January 21 or 2009.

Judge Roberts came to the White House and asked if Obama was ready to retake the office. Obama said "I am, and we're going to do it very slowly."

The word "faithfully" was said out of the sequence in yesterday's oath taking of the president. In order to dispel any confusion and since the oath is written in the U.S. Constitution that was the do-over of the oath taking.

White House Counsel Greg Craig tells AFP that the taking of the oath of office yesterday was administered properly. "But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time."

Yesterday Obama's team was very quick of taking over the White House's official website. Literally after 15 minutes of taking the oath the White House's site was looking like the Change.gov reflecting the change in the leadership of the country. However, I can't say the same today. Barack Obama retook the oath of office today at 7:45 and it's already 9:35PM EST, but I could not find any information about it on White House's website. However, this can be attributed to the fact that it was after hours and the tech team had gone home after a busy first day.

Media Reflects on Retaking of the oath of office.

WSJ writes So Nice He Did It Twice: Obama Retakes Oath. "In a move that will disappoint burgeoning conspiracy theorists, President Barack Obama retook the oath of office this evening after Chief Justice John Roberts flubbed the words the first time on Tuesday."

CBS had reported earlier No Plans For Obama To Retake Oath. "White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says there are no plans for the president to retake the oath, despite not saying it exactly as stated in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution at his inauguration yesterday."

Times Online writes Doh! and LA Times calls it Just to be safe, Obama takes muffed oath one more time.

If anyone doubts if Barack Obama did really become the 44th president yesterday the answer is Indeed. According to the same place of Los Angeles Times, mentioned above, "The Constitution stipulates the new chief executive takes office at noon on Jan. 20. And, in fact, as we pointed out yesterday, Obama actually became the 44th president while he was sitting down listening to classical music."
