I think Obama handled the situation very nicely. The man just came to say hello and no need to grill him with questions that tomorrow the entire media will write about his answers. But the media is writing anyway
Kathleen Blanchard, from Charlotte, NC who watched this video says "he was kind, and tactful I think. There is a time and place, and that was not it. Good stuff. Regular guy I'd say." Indeed Obama was very tactful.
I am not sure how people will explain the fact that Obama stares down the reporter, but give him a break. He just got inaugurated and has shown a good leadership so far. Except I don't agree with his policy on abortion ban funding issue.
Obama, wile seeing how the reporters are doing, also told them that he has not played basketball yet, but had a chance to exercise. According to him on the third floor there is a little gym where Obama got to exercise a little bit.
So far president Barack Obama has done few very important things that shows change is happening and a break of policy from the previous administration.
First is the Guantanamo. Closing the Aushwitz of the 21st century is a very important break from the past. Second is his appearance in the State department and the support for diplomacy verses Military force. The third is his coming down to meet the press and say hello, which signifies how much importance the president gives the transparency of the government and the reporters who cover government's work.
Obama at the end said that "we will try to have a relationship that is respectful and then where you guys feel that you acutally are getting the answers."
Therefore, Obama stares down a reporter may not be a big deal. The man just came to say hello, without politics. Just say hello back as the other reporters did and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. It's Friday afternoon anyway.
