The 2009 NHL Superskills was surprisingly fun (thanks to Chara, not Ovechkin, of course), so we have high hopes for the All Star game proper to not suck 100%. Join us in an open thread as we take in the sights and sounds of the mid-season classic on ice.

I hope everyone is watching the pregame stuff on NHL Network, because they just showed us the catering table for the Western team! Behind the curtain! Behind the curtain! WOOOO!

Oh man how is that for timing, I just turned on the television to NHL network right as they start the interview with Zach in the locker room. He looks pretty.

They were totally waiting for you, KG! :D

Has Jonathan Toews already been interviewed?

Can I ask where you ladies are finding those fetching pictures of all the guys in their suits? All I can find is those boring on ice ones from Yahoo.

I don’t think so; I think they interviewed Kane, though.

Yeah I saw Kane’s interview. That kid needs a haircut, desperately.

alix, I’ve been looking on Gettyimages.com for the player portraits. If that is what you are talking about.

Thanks, Myra!

Mike Komisarek is such a cutie.
Kaner definitely needs a haircut. And Toews has not been interviewed yet.
Zach’s face changed completely when they mentioned his dad. Do they bring up his dad in every interview? That has to get very very old. Poor kid. I totally understand why y’all love the kid, he is everything y’all have built him up to be!

Sorry, alix, I totally missed your question! Yeah, Getty Images is the way to go. Yahoo has the same pictures without watermarks, but I find it easier to look through them on Getty.

I love that they ask Zach about his dad all the time, because it’s constant fodder for our stories of his psychological profile. Poor, traumatized guy. :P
(You’re just lucky they haven’t actually interviewed his father yet. I strongly suspect we’re going to see him before the night is out. Well, we would if the Devils TV guys had any say in it…)

EEE! I’m so glad you agree! :D And yeah, the Devils finally stopped bring up his dad in every interview (now, they only mention him in about a quarter of the games instead of all of them) but in a non-Devils environment, people seem to think it’s the most interesting point to bring up. It’s very tiresome. I don’t know if 35 years from now if Zach’s kid (scary thought) is in the League, if I’d want them to be bringing Zach up at every opportunity… Probably. Heh.

Oh, and in an unrelated aside, you know what story I really don’t care about and hope stops getting any play? The “feud” between Malkin and Ovechkin. Unless it’s going to reach the soap opera levels of Kobe/Shaq, can people just not talk about it?

Souray is a fox.

Sheldon is a TOTAL fox.

Souray is a total fox. I remember one pre-season I was talking with Morgan about what the guys did in the off-season and Morgan put on his best Souray voice and said, “I spent my summer pleasuring the ladies of the Northern lands.” Heh.

Dang, I’m not sure this old lady can handle all these locker room interviews. I’ve just seen Rick Nash’s bare legs. Oh, my!
#
on January 25, 2009 at 5:18 pm Schnookie
Nash was totally mellow about having the camera pan down his scantily-clad legs, wasn’t he? This is one reason I’d be a terrible pro athlete — I would be the one trotting around the dressing room in a muumuu.

Getty Images is like bare legs galore (for those of us that don’t have the NHL Network, that is.)

Well, I don’t have NHL Network, but the 2009 Tour Down Under is hella exciting. Who knew watching bike riding was better than seeing Sheldon Souray in the locker room? Not this little lady.
