"The Queen of Soul’s big-bowed headgear has become a hot property since the legendary singer wore it to belt out “America the Beautiful” at President Barack Obama’s Jan. 20 inauguration."
The Los Angeles Times reports that designer of Aretha Franklin's inauguration hat, Luke Song, has been overwhelmed with demand for the $179 dollar hat. However, Aretha’s custom-made version of the hat cost over $500.
Luke Song, who is an exclusive ladies custom hat designer and manufacturer has placed a short release on his designer website Mr. Song Millinery reading "we greatly appreciate and are blessed by Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, in choosing to wear a Luke Song original design for her performance during the historical 2009 Presidential Inauguration."
Aretha, on the other hand, is not sure if she wants to give up her hat that she loves very much. She told the Today Show "I am considering it. It would be hard to part with my chapeau since it was such a crowning moment in history. I would like to smile every time I look back at it and remember what a great moment it was in American and African-American history. Ten cheers for President Obama," she said in a statement, according to New York Magazine."
The story is different with Michelle Obama's inauguration gown. According to the Washington Post, the beautiful dress that was designed by Jason Wu will be on display this summer in the Smithsonian Museum.
