Beverly Eckert Widow of 9-11 victim Sean Rooney Was In Buffalo Flight

Yesterday's tragic Buffalo plane crash of flight of flight 3407 brings back sad memories of September 11 as the widow of 9-11 vicim Sean Rooney Beverly Eckert was in the flight, returning from New York to honor her husband's birthday memory.

Beverly Eckert was a founding member of an organization called Voiced of September 11. It was set to honor the memories of the victims and be a clearing house for healing.

"Voices of September 11th is a non-profit, non-partisan organization led by Founding Director and President Mary Fetchet, a clinical social worker who lost her son Brad in the attacks. VOICES was established in October of 2001 by Ms. Fetchet and Beverly Eckert, an insurance specialist and 9/11 widow, to create an information clearinghouse for those affected by the attacks through the use of a Web site, electronic newsletter, direct mailings and media outreach. It soon became clear that the 9/11 families required more than information and VOICES role evolved to meet our families’ needs," reads the About Us section of the Voices of September 11.

Buffalo News writes:

"For Sue Bourque, the wait for confirmation regarding her sister, Beverly Eckert, was all too familiar. Eckert is the widow of Sean Rooney, a Buffalo native who lost his life in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

"Eckert was traveling to Buffalo for a weekend celebration of what would have been her husband's 58th birthday. She also had planned to take part in presentation of a scholarship award at Canisius High School that she established in honor of her late husband."

How sad is that both Beverly Eckert's and her late husband Sean Rooney's deaths are linked to a plane crash.

"Both Beverly Eckert and her husband’s deaths were tragically linked to a plane crash. One of the 49 crash victims on Continental Flight 3407 — the commuter plane that crashed into a suburban home — was the widow of a September 11 terror attack victim. Eckert was reportedly traveling to Buffalo for a weekend celebrating what would have been her late husband’s 58th birthday. After Eckert lost her husband, Sean Rooney, her high school sweetheart, who perished in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, she became the co-chairwoman of Voices of September 11, an advocacy group comprised of the family members of those killed. As co-chair, she pushed for a formal commission to investigate intelligence failures and for a proper memorial to the victims," writes Women On the Net.
