According to CBS affiliate, KDKA Channel 2, Albert, TX was originally listed at $2 million, "Dropping from its original asking price of $2 million, the small town of Albert located about 50 miles north of San Antonio can be yours for only $833,000." I suppose even Texas towns must be discounted in these harsh times.
Per the Albert, TX website, Albert has many noteworthy attributes which make its sale a great choice including: pecan and peach orchards, LBJ's schoolhouse, all-season creek through 13 acre property, and a popular ice house and beer garden.
Despite the charm of this small, Texas town, Albert has still not sold. US News and World Report may have our answer as to why, "Albert had 50 residents in 1925 and only 25 in 2000, according to the Handbook of Texas . By 2007, the town was nearly abandoned. A worn-out sign reads, 'Population 4.' Just think: You can be the mayor and chief of police!" As can be seen, this virtual ghost town isn't necessarily a hot bed of activity.
How did this town end up on the market initially? Austin entrepreneur, Bobby Cave, purchased Albert back in 2003 for $216,000. Then, right at the height of the housing market bubble burst, he decided to sell it on eBay for a cool, $2.5 million.
It seems unlikely that Albert, TX will be sold anytime in the near future, at least at it's current price tag. Perhaps once the housing market and economy rebound, consumers will resume purchasing homes, and then, maybe someone will consider buying this abandoned town.
