TV Week breaks the story that Life on Mars is Cancelled and that ABC will not order another show in the next season. DVR Playground says there is good news and bad news about Life on Mars being canceled.
"Good News: Unlike DIRTY SEXY MONEY, ELI STONE and PUSHING DAISIES, the producers of ABC’s LIFE ON MARS have been given the opportunity to end the series on their own terms and provide fans with a definitive ending and some much deserved closure. Bad News: Because the show has been cancelled, with network brass revealing earlier today that there are no plans to pick up MARS for a second season," reports DVR Playground.
Josef Adalian in TVWeek reports:
The network has told producers that it won't be ordering any additional episodes beyond the 17 currently in the works for this season. But rather than play the usual "Let's-wait-until-May-before-we-make-a-decision" game regarding the fate of "Mars," ABC brass have admitted to producers that they won't be ordering another season of the show.
That means that, rather than letting "Mars" drift away with no resolution, producers will be able to write and film a definitive ending to the saga. Production is expected to continue for at least a few more weeks, with the finale expected to air no later than early April.
"We felt it was the right thing to do for the producers and the fans and creatively," ABC Entertainment Group President Steve McPherson told TelevisionWeek.
ABC took heat from critics and loyal fans for the abrupt endings to its well-regarded dramas "Eli Stone" and "Dirty Sexy Money" last year. By giving "Mars" a chance to complete its mission, the network is hoping to avoid any similar "controversy."

#1 Life On Mars
Hey ABC- guess you can put on another crap reality show instead and then wonder why nobody watches your sorry network.
#2 worst possible idea
ABC might be the worst network on television. This show, with it's incredible cast, was a breath of fresh air. A sigh of relief from the unrelenting reality shows and run of the mill cop shows, like the new SouthLand thats about to premiere. ABC you have let me down. This show deserved a better time a better day and certainly another season. Thanks for making the modern day depression more depressing.
#3 why?
That is so lame that life on mars is cancelled! That was one of my favorite shows. This is the second decent show (the other being pushing daisies) that has been cancelled recently. I'm tired of stupid shows without any substance being picked up season after season and the good ones being dropped. Please pick up life on mars for another season ABC!!!
#4 Another good one bites the dust
Finally a series with good acting, writing, and directing and of course, it's cancelled! Thanks to ABC we can still watch episodes of "The Bachelor" (LOL).
#5 brillant move abc
i mean look at some of the idiotic shows being played on the network - like 'better off ted' and 'the unusuals'... they even picked up 'scrubs' from another network...
lame - lame- lame. and a stupid decision.
#6 My last reason to watch entertainment on ABC
I guess the networks must be spying on me-they seem on cancel every Joan of Arcadia, then Eli Stone then Dirty Sexy Money and now Life on Mars. I guess 50 plus white educated men with $70K+ incomes aren't what they're looking for-after all I don't drink beer, buy frozen dinners ans smoke cigarettes.
#7 LOM
Ditto, just add Pushing Daisies, and female, and there I am. I am almost afraid to mention any other shows I enjoy....
#8 BRING IT BACK
We finally found a decent show to watch. Great cast of characters and music that brings back great memories. This is a cop show worth watching. Why are all the good shows cancelled? BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!
#9 Life On Mars
ABC is in free fall and the honcho's can't figure out why.
The cancelling of LOM is one of the symptoms of a company that doesn't have any idea what quality television is.Disney should stick to Mickey Mouse and find somebody who knows television to run the network and understands fans.
#10 Say no to reality
Say no to reality television, its making everyone dumber by the day.
I love shows like this that actually make you think.
#11 LIFE ON MARS cancelled? ABC's smoking CRACK
I've over it. ABC FINALLY gets a GREAT show on TV instead of all the mindless Trash (Batchelor, Dancing, etc) and they go and Cancel it. Are all the exec's at ABC like 22 or something?---and can't appreciate how wonderful life in the 70's was? I'm soooo over ABC.
#12 WRITE TO ABC and tell them what you think!
We simply CAN'T LOSE one of the FEW decent shows on TV! Write to ABC at this address:

#13 Life on Mars
I can't believe it! It can't be true that Life on Mars has been cancelled. Everyone I know loves it. ABC has lost its mind. I'm really shocked. This is a HUGE mistake.
#14 FOX is much better than ABC anyways
There is literally only one television show I watch, and if it wasnt for DVR I wouldnt get to see it (I work nights). If ABC decides to end it the easy way, with a quick escape (like a bad short story) I will be furious. I always hated ABC, now its not even a station worth watching! Back to FOX
#15 Help Save Life on Mars - contact ABC - I did
Hey everyone, if you love the show, go to abc.com and select contact us and select Life on Mars. Type in you do not want them to cancel the show. Express your thoughts. If enough people write in, we could save the show!
#16 LIFE ON MARS, WAS A GOOD SHOW!
ABC HAS LOST THERE MIND, DONT NOBODY WANT TO SEE ANOTHER REALITY SHOW,LIFE ON MARS WAS A GOOD SHOW, OH WELL NOTHING ELSE WORTH WATCHING!GUESS I WILL GO READ A BOOK!
#17 Only one "L" in "Canceled"
Yes, it's sad that good TV is being replaced by mindless dribble. Have you ever compared the Golden Globe TV nominations to People's Choice TV nominations? What we see isn't based on what is good, it's based on what most people watch. It's all part of the "dumbing down" of our country. Unfortunate.
#18 life on mars
ABC you are the worst. you don't even give the show a better time slot. You had really good actors, time slot killed it.you really are bad.
#19 ABC, your one MESSED up Network!
All the above mentioned shows, maybe you should let the writers have their endings.
And trying the show CUPID? Please, you can't be serious. Then again, it'll be a hit and you'll remove it.
RIP ABC
