Their car was sideswapped by a haulage truck and Susan Tsvangirai bore the full impact losing her life in today's accident. The car accident happened when Susan and Morgan were traveling to Morgan Tsvnagirai's home area where he was due to address a rally tomorrow.
According to All Africa "usan was seated behind the driver of their car when a haulage truck encroached onto their lane. Their driver swerved and the truck crushed the right hand side of the vehicle, behind the driver. Their landcruiser veered off the road and rolled three times.
"Reports we have received say Susan survived the intial impact and when she was pulled out of the vehicle she was talking, but clearly in great pain. But a close family friend told us she lost consciousness on the way to Harare's Avenues Clinic, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Initial reports suggest she might have broken her back and suffered multiple leg fractures."
Radio Zimbabwe reports the sad news and has released the following infomation about Susan Tsvangrai and her husband Morgan.
Morgan Tsvangirai and his wife Susan had been married for 31 years and have 6 children.
"Susan Tsvangirai has been described by all who knew her as a humble woman who stayed out of the limelight. But she has been a constant source of support and strength to her husband. She always said that if she ever became first lady whe would do her best to empower Zimbabwean women, who for so long have been sidelined.
"The strong Christian beliefs of Susan Tsvangirai have helped her to cope with what must have been a very difficult life, since her husband's entry into the forefront of the political arena 10 years ago. But she coped with it all, with grace and dignity saying: "God is our ultimate shield.""
