Evacuation
Any area south of the Bismarck Expressway and West of South Washington Street as well as any area south of Burleigh Avenue from the Missouri River to Apple Creek needs to prepare for potential flooding.
The Missouri River continues to rise due to an ice jam. At some point, Apple Creek will also need to purge; however, Oahe remains iced over and the water will flow north.
Please consider personal protective measures such as moving items from basements to higher levels.
Crests
Water levels will continue to rise until the ice jam is gone. Ice jams are unpredictable, and we are unable to anticipate river levels at this time.
Future Plans
The ND National Guard and Corps of Engineer’s ice jam expert are considering various options such as salt and blasting. These options will begin when weather conditions are favorable. We are hopeful that operations will begin in the morning (3-25-09).
