The Storm Will Hit The South In Two Rounds

AccuWeather reports two rounds of severe weather will threaten the South today. The first is currently racing eastward across the Deep South. The second will ignite later today over the Arklatex.

Today is starting with a cluster of heavy thunderstorms bearing down on the Deep South. Thunderstorms are pushing eastward across southeastern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and extreme southeastern Louisiana. This is virtually the same area that was pounded by severe weather Thursday morning.

Heavy thunderstorms will reach Jacksonville and Savannah this afternoon. At that time, a new round of severe weather will ignite over the Arklatex. The storm slamming the southern High Plains with a blizzard will spark the late-day intense thunderstorms.

Dallas, Tyler and Houston, Texas, and Texarkana, Ark., are amongst the cities, towns and rural areas severe weather will threaten this afternoon. Intense thunderstorms will shift to the central Gulf Coast states and Tennessee Valley tonight into Saturday.

The severe weather will rattle Magee, Miss., tonight. An EF-3 tornado tore through that town as recently as early Thursday morning. That twister damaged or destroyed 60 homes. No lives were lost.

Tornadoes will once again be a part of the severe weather threat through Saturday. The strongest thunderstorms also have potential to produce damaging winds and window-shattering hail. Recent rain has made the Deep South more susceptible to flash flooding from the storms' downpours.

Anyone in the path of severe weather should closely monitor local media outlets and take immediate action when storm-related warnings are issued. Those living or visiting from Louisiana to Alabama and Tennessee are especially urged to devise a plan to prevent sleeping through these alerts.
