Save The Children To Madonna: Foreign Adoption Not Norm

Madonna had earlier expressed her desire to adopt another child from Malawi.

Experts say that international adoption should only be considered as a last resort. Why don't the celebrities adopt the orphan chilren from their own countries? Those children need help too. But they go oversease to a poor countries and thus make a good PR. However, as that prompts other parents to consider an international adoption and as the Westerners don't want to adopt a seek child from an orphanage in a third world country this demand for foreign children well feeds a system of child abduction in those countries and parents just abandoning their children for a fee or for nothing.

"Should it be the case that the child really has no immediate family or extended family who can look after her or him, then the thing to do is support the community to support the local agencies and charities who can look after the child," he said.

According to ABC Australia Madonna's desire to adopt a child will be examined next week by Malawian court. However, many locals oppose to her adoption of a child from Malawi and protest the government for scrapping the laws that ban non-residents to adopt children from this south African country that was hit bad by AIDS epidemic.
