SF Mayor Uses Twitter To Announce Running For CA Governor

Just about 5 hours ago the mayor of San Francisco Gavin Newsom used his official Twitter account to announce that he is now running to be the next governor of California.

In this announcement Twit Newsom says he wanted his Twitter friends to be the first one to know he is running and later in newer Twits he asks to retwitt and raise more money. This is a sign that Newsom may rely heavily on Social media for raising funds for his election campaign.

Newsom writs. "It's official- running for Gov of CA. Wanted you to be the first to know. Need your help. Check out video: http://tr.im/iOCN and ReTweet"

Currently Newsom has more than 277,406 followers on Twitter and the list is growing. The campaign has already raised close to 15,000 dollars and hope by re twitting to raise another $5,000 to reach the goal of $20,000.

Gavin Newsom has based his campaign for running for the governor of California on the message of "change." On his campaign website Newsom writes "I hope you will join our campaign that has set out to change California." In the accompanying video Newsom says in his city they are on their way to Universal health care. They aim to afford it by keeping people healthier. Newsom promises school reform and more jobs.

The next regularly scheduled election for all voters in California is June 8, 2010. It is the primary election for California executive offices and state and federal legislative offices and propositions. Some counties will have local offices on the ballot.
