Guess Who's Back, Eminem

Eminem is back and in a big way. Marshall Mathers disappeared from the music scene a few years ago and we haven’t heard too much from him. However, there was constant criticism about his major weight gain (apparently he ballooned up to over 250lbs). Looking at his new video makes me wonder if any of those rumors were true. Eminem is back and he has a lot to say.

When Eminem broke onto the scene in 1998, many people thought this kid didn’t stand a chance. He was white, had bleached hair and an attitude that could not be faltered. He grew up in Detroit rapping about anything and everything. He would find his niche rapping about what else, Hollywood. In his first music video he commented on Monica and Bill. He ways didn’t change back in 2000 when he went on a tirade on the pop music scene. Christina Aguilera was known to be “Loose” with men…. Eminem simply commented on that fact by replacing her in the video with a blowup doll resembling her likeness. No one is safe when Eminem is on the loose. I think that’s the way it should be. It is either all okay to parody or nothing is. You can’t pick and choose…. And Eminem doesn’t discriminate when it comes to his topics.

Remember his comments on the gay and lesbian community? Well, his “F-U” to the world about that was a duet with the gayest man in entertainment--- Sir Elton John. Eminem is not a dumb guy. He has the millions to prove that fact. However, anyone who makes slur about an ethnicity, sex, ect. needs to know that there are consequences. He knows this, and doesn’t care. He has been consistent about his own beliefs. I do not agree with a lot of his views. I do, however think that he has a right to express his thoughts. I think the majority of his comments and videos are for shock value. He caught our attention.

Celebrities practically beg to be parodied! Why else would they act like such idiots? Britney, Lindsay, Heidi and Spencer…. People need to realize that celebrities are insane and need a reality check. Eminem is the celebrity “reality check”. He simply says everything that we are all thinking. I just wonder if he gets his lyrics from watching E! News or reading Us Weekly. Could you imagine Eminem standing in the checkout line in the supermarket catching up on all the week’s gossip?

On his first single, “We Made You” Eminem comments on Lindsay Lohan and her lesbian “lover” Samantha Ronson. He also makes degrading comments about Kim Kardashian and her giant posterior. But, in true Eminem fashion, he delivers with a hilarious music video. Can you say, “Rock of Love”?

In his video, we see a protruding Kim Kardashian ass. A porn star posing as the Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin flaunts herself in front of the camera and a grizzly bear. Eminem himself reenacts a scene from “Rainman” (with the help of Dr. Dre and 50 Cent). What else could you ask for? The opening is quite possibly the best, though. It opens with a very pudgy Jessica Simpson look-a-like in Daisy Dukes. Eminem is Tony Romo, of course. Oh, the end of the video… Eminem struts (and dances) in a reenactment of “Jailhouse Rock”.

I can only say, “Bravo” to Mr. Mathers and his constant creativity. He doesn’t let the media or his own personal life get him down. He takes all of that frustration and turns it in dollar signs when he writes brilliant lyrics that we all find so fascinating. You don’t have to like the man himself. But, you have to respect that his is truly a lyrical artist.
