
The Czech mortgage market is showing signs of recovery. While the mortgage rates are in very good levels, getting mortgage loans is difficult. The Mortgage Broker Association (AHM) announced that its brokers in the first quarter of this year mediated mortgages in the volume of nearly Kč 3.9 billion (€146 million), a drop of 2 percent compared with Q1 2008.
This is a moderate decline considering the current global economic slowdown. The market share of mortgages that are mediated by the AHM members increased to nearly 22 percent in Q1 2009 for the overall mortgage market. Mortgages in the volume of Kč 7.5 billion were granted on the Czech market in March. The AHM said it expects the demand for services provided by its brokers to increase as the demand for mortgage loans is picking up.
