Competition for Craigslist?

The picture is painted in the minds of our families- Craigslist once revered as a hot new “goldmine” for “classifieds” is now a tainted one with Headlines reading “The Craigslist Killer”. Yes they are talking about the suspect Philip Markoff charged on April 14th with the death of masseuse Julissa Brisman- and linked to two other attacks? We wonder what is safe for our children, ourselves, and our family?

And remember “The Baby for Sale?” on Craigslist. The Canadian couple arrested for attempting to sell their 7 day old child. That struck a few cords shocking the nation. Is nothing sacred anymore? In our shock the couple stated that the ad was a hoax but were charged with public mischief and are still continuing their investigation.

The baby is in the hands of the social workers now, but the question is could this been prevented-the ad from ever being placed? How do we police the classified ads on our sites? Manual approval is still the way to go. The true importance of manual approval is the safety of your visitors as well as yourself.

What are some ways to protect yourself when posting/answering classified ads?

1. Never meet anyone alone
2. Never give out your personal information Online [i.e phone number, address, etc.]
3. Meet at a neutral/public place
4. Research the company before responding

Dirget.com is a new classified site and in lue to the safety of its visitors approves all posts manually and will continue to do so regardless of the amount of visitors it encounters. Allowing visitors to post classifieds on everything from pets, to antiques, to jobs without worry. Additionally Dirget offers no erotic advertisements. Will Dirget become the new alternative to classified ads? We will have to wait and see!
