The song competed in the second semi-final and won a place in the Eurovision final. He later went on to win the competition, even exceeding the points expected and breaking the previous record of 292 points scored by Lordi in 2006, finishing with a grand total of 387 points, 169 more then the runner up of Iceland and 95 points more then the previous record holders, Finland, with theit band lordi.
Now Norway will host the Eurovision 2010. According to the rules of Eurovision the winner country gets to host the following year's contest. This is a wonderful opportunity for the winner country as it puts the country in the European spotlight, brings hundreds of thousands of tourists and helps the economy. People call from their cell phones and vote like it's with American Idol. However, you can't vote for the representative of your own country. This constitutes the 50 percent of the votes. The other 50 percent comes from a professional jury.
There were two things during the 2009 Eurovision festival that had to do with politics but toward a positive direction. First was the fact that the two girls representig Israel (Noa & Mira Awad) had an Israeli Arab mix and sung in two languages, but the main message was in English: There Must Be Another Way. The second was the one point that Armenia gave to its neighbor Azerbaijan. Armenia and Azerbaijan are currently at No War No Peace state and this single one point may be a message to Azerbaijan that "There Must Be Another Way." This is despite the fact that yesterday Azerbaijan had demanded the organizers of Eurovision 2009 to remove from the Armenian ad a historical Armenian statue that is located in Nagorno Karabakh, people of which are struggling for their right of Self-Determination for freedom from Azeri domination.
Now, it's Oslo's turn next year to put a show that is equal or exceeds the one in Moscow. Russia put a magnificent Eurovision 2009 show. Everything was beautiful and wonderful. Congratulations to Alexander Rybak and Norway who win the Eurovision 2009. Fans will look forward to next year's contest in Oslo.
