When going for holidays or vacation it's always good to know the national holidays for that particular country. This is also true for Canada. The Canadian Holidays are different than the ones in U.S. For example today is Victoria Day in Canada and if you are a tourist you may see some government places and embassies closed despite entertainment festivities being available.

Why is it necessary to know the public holidays? Let's say you need to go to the U.S embassy in Canada. If it happens to be a Canadian holiday you can't go there because the embassies are usually closed on their national and host country's public holidays.

Today is Victoria Day (the Monday before May 25), which falls on May 18 in 2009. The Next Canadian Holiday is Canada Day, which falls on July 1st.
