This past weekend the Washington Nationals baseball team was swept by the Philadelphia Phillies, losing all four games of their weekend series by margins of 10-6, 8-5, 7-5 and 8-6.
The results cemented the Washington Nationals baseball team's status as the worst team in major league baseball, having won just 5 of 16 home games and only 11 of 36 overall.
However, the indignities suffered at Nationals Park weren’t limited to the players. During a sixth inning rain delay in one of this weekend’s games, the organization’s grounds crew struggled mightily to cover the infield (see video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjI2cD2D2_o&feature=player_embedded ).
After several minutes of struggling with the tarp in the driving rain, the grounds crew enlisted the help of security guards. And then fans ran onto the field to help.
Ultimately, the grounds crew managed to get the job done, and the crowd roared its approval. Of course, it’s virtually the only thing they had to cheer about all series long.
