California 2009 Election Early Results Are Light Turnout

The polling stations in California will close at 8PM this evening. However, the early results of the 2009 California elections are the light turnout.

What can you expect from the 2009 California statewide special election results when by 3 p.m., voter turnout in Los Angeles County was a mere 9.87%. Turnout in Orange County is similarly scant. Those who vote seem unhappy with the budget-related propositions.

According to LA Times California Secretary of State Debra Bowen said today that she was not surprised by the light turnout for the state's special election, considering the confusing ballot measures and the numerous times in recent years voters had been asked to go to the polls. She told that she thought everyone knew that the 2009 elections would result in a lighter voter turnout.

A special government website, dedicated to today's California special elections is set upt at http://vote.sos.ca.gov/. Returns and results will be updated approximately every 10 minutes starting May 19th at 8:00 p.m. local time.

The Secretary of State only will certify results for state and federal contests. To find results for a city, county, or special district election, visit our County Elections offices page to find the link to the county website where the election is being held to determine if that county posts its election results online.

Major stake in today's California special election is to find a way to balance state's books. If the voters reject the the ballot measures the governor has warned that the budget shortfall could reach $21.3 billion, resulting in severe cuts in funds dedicated to education, public safety and healthcare.

Early results of the 2009 California special elections are not out yet. As we mentioned before the Secretary of State website will update the results every 10 minutes starting at 8PM PST.
