ABC television's 2009 Dancing with the Stars celebrated a new winner Tuesday night as the results are already out. In its eighth season, which premiered on March 9, 2009, with 13 couples vying for the number one spot, ABC television and DWTS had their narrowest competition ever. In the finale that was declared as the tightest ever in the show's history, 2009 Dancing with the Stars winner is Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson.

Shawn and Mark became the winners of the 2009 Dancing With The Stars Finale and the mirrored trophy ball. Then the second place came Gilles and Cheryl and the 3rd place is shared between Melissa and Tony. Our congratulations go to all the winners.

Now Shawn Johnson taking home the big trophy will add one more award to her medal collection by winning Dancing With The Stars last night. The 17-year-old Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson skipped her prom to compete on the show, and from the look on her face when she was announced the champion, it was well worth it.

Reflecting back to Shawn Johnson's Olympic victory. The first time ever, two U.S. women won gold and silver medals in the all-around individual gymnastics competition. For Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson - teammates, competitors and friends - it's been a long journey to a dream that has finally come true. The pair anchored the U.S. team that took silver behind China's gold earlier in the week. Liukin said she was not disappointed, but she and Johnson wanted more. They made a calendar, counting the days until they got their next chance for gold. They wanted to go all out and have fun. And the two pals managed to do both. "I couldn't be any prouder of Nastia," Johnson said. "She deserved that gold medal. She's one of my best friends and we just want the best for each other." The silver seemed to whet Johnson's appetite. She'd like to try again at the Olympics in London. "After experiencing the Olympics, I'd give anything to feel that again. If I can in 2012, I'll be there."

Few words about the voting

During the live shows of Dancing With The Stars, judges gave a score based on several factors, including technical execution. But the judges' scores alone did not decide a couple's fate.

Phone lines, text votes (AT&T customers only) and online polls were open at the top of each performance show so that viewers could vote for their favorites. Phone and text lines stayed open for 30 minutes after the end of the show. Online voting remained open until noon (Eastern Time) the next day.

Congratulations to the 2009 Dancing With The Stars winners. Now looking forward to the next season.
