Fleet Week 2009 To Have Low Military Flyover

NYC today starts its annual Fleet Week 2009 event. Fleet week today includes a low elevation military flyover up the Hudson River, north from the Verrazano Bridge.

Therefore, NYC and New Jersey residents and guest should not be afraid when they see military planes demonstrating low elevation flyover in the skies of the New York City.

The news is reminded to the residents by The New York City Office of Emergency Management. Today's Flee Week 2009 fly-over by four F-18 Hornets was scheduled for 11:45 a.m. The aircraft were to head north over the Hudson River, dipping to an altitude of 1,000 feet.

"Held in the week leading up to and including Memorial Day, the annual Fleet Week is a colourful affair and a celebration of the various sea services. Thousands of sailors, marines and Coast Guardsmen from the US Navy and US Coast Guard as well as from international navy ships attend the celebrations with the main event taking place on Memorial Day itself. Visitors can enjoy live demonstrations of key maritime skills, take tours of ships and visit exhibitions explaining the ins and outs of life at sea. There is also an military aircraft display."
