When Mourinho had been asked about the possibility of him leaving Inter he had said there was a “0.01%” chance, however the rumour mill continued to churn up stories of his return to the Premiership or a move to La Liga.
The club issued a statement shortly after Mourinho signed his contract extension saying: "In response to the wish of the coach to continue the project started together a year ago, a wish welcomed with pleasure by the club as a sign of attachment and winning spirit, FC Internazionale announces the extension of Jose Mourinho's contract until 30 June 2012."
Mourinho has had a very successful managerial career so far having won titles in England, Portugal and now Italy as well as winning the Champions League with FC Porto. It is because of his fantastic record that he is continually linked with moves to the world’s biggest clubs.
Real Madrid were the club reportedly showing the strongest interest in the summer, with managing in Spain said to be one of Mourinhos ambitions also. He has now maintained Inter’s winning streak in Serie A to 4 titles in a row and will be hoping to add to this, but his next ambition will be to progress them in Europe as Mourinho was disappointed to be knocked out by Manchester United in the first knockout stage of the competition.
It was this knock out by Manchester United that probably cast the most doubt over his future as Inter manager, as it turned a few sections of the support against him as well as leading to more than a few clashes with the Italian media. However he seems to have overcome that and will be looking to build a stronger squad for next year and set his sights on European and domestic glory.
