As NY Times reports there is a historical precedence. When Pit Sampras became the winner of his 14th major title, his wife, Bridgette Wilson, was pregnant with their first child and was watching from the stands in New York. On the verge of his 14th, Federer’s new wife, Mirka Vavrinec, is pregnant with their first child as she watches him in Paris.
This may be a shocking parallel. Also, considering the fact that Federer's arch nemesis Rafael Nadal is out and has recently been standing on Roger's way, this could well come true. All odds are in favor of Roger Federer becoming the 2009 winner of French Open.
However, don't discount Robin Soderling. He got Nadal out of the way. We have seen underdogs becoming the winner of major sports events.
"I’m doing great," Vavrinec said Friday after her husband’s latest five-set escape referring to her pregnancy.
If Roger Federer becomes this year's French Open winner, he will have accomplished one feat that Pit Sampras never quite managed: a complete set of Grand Slam singles titles. Good luck to the winner.
