For the first time the ReAnimania 2009 film festival will take place from 3 to 6 October in Yerevan. Vrej Qesuni, the founding director of the festival, Syrian-Armenian painter, film director and animator, says that the main purpose of the festival is the reunification of animators working in different spheres and different studios in the world. That is the reason why the first festival is going to have more festive nature. Armenia in the field of animation has traditionally given birth to many talented professionals, now they are going “to reanimate” (restore) the Armenian animation.
The history of Armenian animation has started in 1939, when Lev Artamonov created the cartoon “The Dog and the Cat.”, This year we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of our national animation.
Qasuni says there today are many young and talented animators in Armenia. The festival aims to help the unknown talented animators to get in touch with other well known animators to raise awareness of their works and spread them in the world. The organizers say this will be a brilliant opportunity for the animators to cooperate, meet, work together and get to know each other.
The animations are not directed to the children only. Many authors use the animation techniques for touching upon serious subjects.
The “ReAnimation” is going to present the tendencies of animation development through workshops. There will be a master classes conducted by famous animators Andrey Petrov, Yuri Norshtein and others.
ReAnimation will be is preceded by the “International Festival of Illustrations”, which tries to develop the culture of creating illustrated books in the lives of Armenian.
