In newsletter published by the city management of Ocean Ridge, FL it reads that the nationwide increase in thefts from vehicles has been linked to the latest activity known as, “Flipping.” The thief walks a neighborhood and locates unlocked cars by ‘flipping” or lifting door handles. Anything of value, such as: loose change, a cell phone, a camera, a GPS device, or a computer, quickly becomes stolen property.
The easiest prevention tool from "flipping" is to simply lock your car doors. If you have an alarm, set it. However, doing so while leaving valuables in plain view will result in a broken window; as well as the loss of those valuables. Be sure anything of value is out of sight while you are away from your car and enjoying your vacation.
Please continue to report any suspicious activity to the Police Department by dialing 911 in an emergency or 732-8331 in a non-emergency situation.
