I remembered people visiting old, historical places and homes me being a child from the ‘60s. And, you’ll find out that the place is haunted. If there is a guide present they may add the story behind the haunting. But, that’s about it. Books may be written about the haunting . In addition, some TV special may be based on it also.
I remembered about 4 years ago clicking through the TV channels for something interesting to watch. And, I hit on Most Haunted on the Travel Channel. It was fascinating! A show on something I always loved. It was the first time I heard the word paranormal. And, the first time I saw an investigation. They gave a tidbit of historical information with an historian. There would be a psychic present to help with understand what has happened years earlier. The psychic will also communicate with the dead. But, there would be a skeptic present too. Then they would go to night vision camera while doing a walk-through. Very interesting stuff!
But, then I noticed one day there was an American version, Ghost Hunters on Scifi. They don’t use a psychic at all. This show is known for their use of scientific equipment. EMF detectors, digital recorders, temperature gages, computer software for voice, thermal imaging camera, it’s endless. This is not including specially made equipment made for them by engineers. They do their investigations in the dark, like Most Haunted. But, they investigate to “debunk” (another new word) a haunting.
There are plenty of other shows out there with more yet to come. Many of you have must have noticed that many cities around the world they are running Ghost Tours now. Some run them as walking tours, others may run them as an investigation. This is brand new too. So, many to choose from.
Paranormal can mean other things too. UFO’s, crop circles, creatures like Bigfoot, it’s quite vast. I’m still learning what this is all about.
But, for us oldsters, it’s a little confusing. Were still trying to understand why someone would want to investigate a haunted place? Or, to prove it’s not haunted? And, why there are skeptics and believers? We just know a place is just haunted and love it!
