Christianborg Castle Hosting Obama

The Christianborg Castle at Osu in Accra, the seat of the government of the Republic of Ghana, is in a state of readiness to welcome the United States President, Barack Obama, the Communications Director at the castle, Mr Koku Anhidoho, said.

Whilst the main road leading to the Christianborg Castle has been adorned with the pictures of President Obama and President John Evans Atta Mills, both beaming with infectious smiles, the various structures at the seat of government have been painted to give the edifice a new look.

According to him, a contingent of the military and police have been rehearsing on a daily basis to mount a guard of honour when the US President is officially received at the Christianborg Castle at Osu in Accra where he is expected to have a breakfast meeting with President Mills and high-ranking government officials.

He explained that the two presidents will then move to the Credentials Hall of the Christianborg Castle, where they will hold bilateral talks behind close doors.

The presidential staffer further explained that President Mills will be expected to commend the US President for recognising and extolling the country’s democratic credentials and solicit from him what his country can offer to strengthen the various democratic structures in the country.

President Mills, the presidential staffer added, will thank the US government for his support, which ensured the smooth conduct of the 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.

Mr Anyidoho mentioned that President Mills will also assure President Obama of his preparedness and commitment to deepen democratic governance during his term of office.

He said the global financial downturn, which has impacted negatively on the economies of developing countries, including Ghana, will also feature prominently in the discussions between the two leaders.

He said President Mills will also discuss the state of the various projects being undertaken by the US in Ghana and what can be done by President Obama to expand such projects for the benefit of the masses of the people to enhance the relations between the two countries.

Mr Anyidoho said it is his expectation that President Mills will ask for more US expertise in the exploration and drilling of the country’s huge oil and gas potential which has attracted international attention.
