Foo Fighters Keeping The Grunge Alive

Music will always move me because of Grunge: thank you Kurt Cobain. Nirvana opened the doors to a style of contemporary of music where musicians can thrust their deepest thoughts, emotions and frustrations through a myriad of high energy musical expressions.

These lyrics differ from pop music because of the creative thrust that is sparked from an absolute realm. This absolute realm is one that most people are unable to get in touch with that easily but respond to it whilst listening to a particular piece of music where that artist has tuned into this phenomenal vibe.

It is at this moment of connecting to a vibe so deeply moving that the essence of empathy is felt with music where the artist has delved into feelings and emotions that most people may at times be too afraid to face. Drama is an aspect of art we can all enjoy and yet this is so because of empathy. We have all experienced dramatic situations that have troubled us so intensely. It is when we listen to music that our troubled thoughts and feelings can be soothed because of an underlining connection within what the artist wants so desperately to express. Desperate passion!

Lead singer Dave Grohl was the drummer from Nirvana who has discovered his own unique way to continue the grunge vibe through the music of the Foo Fighters. There is the beauty of minimalism which is a primary strength in stripping the music down. Grohl writes the guitar riffs so that they are as rhythmic as possible. The musical shift from drums to guitar has resulted in his ability to piece together songs easily.

The Foo Fighters are able to mold melodic elements into harder sounds. Grohl and the band love a range of music, whether it's the Beatles or Queen or Punk Rock. Punk Rock to Grohl has stemmed from the lure of energy and immediacy that he believes comes from the need to thrash stuff around while at the same time embracing the beauty of melody. Thus, it becomes natural.

The Foo Fighters album is titled Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace. It is scheduled for release on the 25th of September, 2009. Expect to hear the first single, “Pretender” on the radio in early August.
