James Jackson is a Melbourne artist who has a great deal to offer the Poetry scene both locally and nationally. He has always used poetry the way it should be used. Poetry needs inner strength and courage. Jackson has always performed in this way and his level of rage has been used to throw out and express his spoken word via intellect, wit and satire.
Literature (when written correctly) enables change in the world. It is through literature that James Jackson is able to provoke discussion and debate with other like-minded people. Thus, this enables him to establish integrity and recognition.
People desire the deep insight addressed through James Jackson’s dissatisfaction with the world around him. It is through James Jackson’s thought provoking spoken word that others with similar feelings are able to connect. For, it is within these insights relating to issues of an often convoluted and repressive society that makes James Jackson an incredible Melbourne Poet.
There is a multitude of talented artists out there. Unfortunately at times it appears that so many political points of view deter and detract these individuals from becoming adequately recognized. Those who are different and do not fit in with the main bill of the dominating elite can often become outcast. It is through spoken word that James Jackson believes even those who oppose egalitarian points of view and try to control the masses with their charismatic charm: will never take away an individual’s right to express themselves freely.
It is insane that some spoken word artists would rather keep their poetry softly spoken, tame and without creative voice projection. James Jackson feels that if one must express spoken word on stage the performer needs to have a gut full in their belly as though they’re about to break their innards to make a lasting impact on those around them.
James Jackson has many local and international influences from Shelton Lea (Melbourne Poet), and the likes of hip-hop greats such as Ill Bill, Necro, Non Phixion, Cage, amongst others. Since James Jackson’s first performance at the Dan O’Connel in 2006: he has been active both on and off stage in the Melbourne Poetry scene. In 2007 he performed at the Overload Poetry Festival with a show called: “James Jackson: Monster of Poetry”. Since then he has released CD’s such as; “Yeah, Yeah it’s James Jackson Live in Melbourne” (2008) and ‘Pimpin’ Gnomes” (2008).
Current projects: James Jackson is working on a feature film where he is combining his background in wrestling into a film titled: “Curse of the Killer Luchador”, which is scheduled to be completed sometime next year. He is also working with other performance artists, multi-media artists and musicians from Melbourne to prepare for a major show for the Melbourne Fringe Festival on the 29th of September 2009 at 303 Bar on High St in Northcote called: “The Pedophile Terrorist and the Fight on Box Hill”.
Be sure to catch James Jackson performing for Roar House Inc. this Thursday. You heard it, in character and live this Thursday after 7pm on the 16th of July at 303 Bar on High St in Northcote. Then, in Adelaide, at a Hip Hop Character Show, High Ground in the city, on August 6th after 8pm along side performer: “The One Who Does Not Exist” doing “The Watermelon Man”.
