Though the SPF donated all of its funds to cancer research in 2008, this year it will donate 80 percent of its proceeds specifically to the American Cancer Society. In turn, the ACS is aiming to take the event nationwide, and so far, several states are on board. Because the event is in memory of Sarah Parvin, a little girl full of life, love, and happiness in the Quakertown community who lost her battle with ovarian cancer at the age of 12, the remaining 20 percent of proceeds will be used to specifically fund ovarian cancer research.
To continue Sarah's legacy, the SPF has also donated $25,000 to the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge to establish its very own Sarah Parvin room. This facility provides free, temporary housing for 1,300 cancer patients and their caregivers undergoing cancer treatment in Philadelphia each year.
The Sarah Parvin 24/hr Soccerfest is a soccer tournament that reaches out to all travel soccer players and also encourages players ages 19+ to participate in novice recreational and competitive divisions. Highlights of the tournament include a special appearance from the Philadelphia KIXX dancers, tethered balloon rides, a tent city, moon bounces, a giant movie screen, food, games, DJ, live bands and 24 hours of non-stop fun! Registration for this year's is now open and all are invited and encouraged to participate.
The Sarah Parvin 24/hr SoccerFest will take place at the Quakertown Community Soccer Fields located at 221 California Road, Quakertown, PA 18951. The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Aug. 1 and end at 10 a.m. on Aug. 2. For more information on Sarah Parvin as well as registration information, visit www.sarahsoccer.com.
