At least two people have died and at least six were injured during the collapse of the stage being built for pop idol Madonna's Sticky and Sweet world tour in Marseilles, France, tour organizers said on Friday.

Madonna's world tour began on July 4 in London. Madonna's concert in Marseilles, scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled due to the tragic incident, which happened on Thursday. Planeta Plus, the organizers of Madonna's August 2 performance in St. Petersburg, said in a statement that the incident in France would not affect her concert in Russia's second city.

Madonna is still expected to travel to St. Petersburg.

"The tragic event in France has no affect on the construction of the stage for the singer's performance in [St.] Petersburg," Planeta Plus said, adding that additional safety precautions had been put in place for the construction of the stage.

The organizers said the reasons for the incident in France would be investigated and additional consultations will be held with Madonna's engineers to ensure a similar incident does not occur in St. Petersburg.
