California Products Liability Attorneys Fight Coleman Over Defective Heaters

The Bisnar | Chase California products liability lawyers based in Orange County are continuing the legal battle against the Coleman company over personal injury caused to young Trevor Dennis when he sustained serious burns as a result of a defective Coleman propane heater.

According to the lawsuit filed in the Orange County Superior Court, the heater caused Trevor's trailer to catch on fire during the family's camping trip in December 2005 at the Octillo Wells Desert Recreation Area. Trevor suffered burn injuries, which require constant medical care and attention even now, the lawsuit states.

Bisnar | Chase is representing Trevor and his mother, Alysha Reed against Coleman, which manufactured the faulty propane heater, the ProCat (TM) PerfecTemp (TM) (Model 5053), the lawsuit states. The company knowingly used defective parts and faulty design in its heaters, which led to Trevor's catastrophic injuries, according to court documents.

"This is looking like a case of an American manufacturer using a faulty design, subpar critical parts from Chinese suppliers, a sloppy assembly and inadequate quality control leading to a catastrophic injury of a then 7-year-old boy," says John Bisnar, founding partner of Bisnar | Chase.

The company also claimed in their advertising that the propane heater was safe indoors, when in fact it was not. The Coleman Company knew its propane heaters were faulty based on prior consumer complaints, warranty claims, incident reports and lawsuits. However, they did not recall these products and continued to sell them as safe, family-friendly consumer products.
