Israeli FM ecommended for indictment by police

The police are also recommending charging Yoav Mani, Lieberman's attorney and Sharon Shalom who the minister's aide.

The state prosecutors office is recommending that the recommendation on Lieberman's charges be transferred to Attorney General Mazuz's office as soon as possible.

Lieberman said in a statement in reaction, that there was no basis to any of the allegations against him and that the police investigation is politically motivated. He added that the recommendation had ended without any indictment. "The investigations against him would not have continued for a decade if there had been any basis to them. " He said that the police had been persecuting him for 13 years , and as his political strength and Yisrael Beiteinu's strength had grown, so attempts to drive him from public office had increased.

A police source said that the investigation is "practically over" and the body of evidence is sufficient to support an indictment on the charges.

YNet News reported that investigators had uncovered a web of between six and eight front companies and multiple accounts allegedly used to finance Yisrael Beiteinu's campaigns. Lieberman had held around 2.5 million dollars in illegal funds in accounts in Cyprus, the website said.
