Tiger Woods Captures 2nd Consecutive PGA TOUR

It seems that after caputuring two PGA TOURs in a row Tiger Woods may now be ready for PGA Championship glory.

With his 70th PGA TOUR victory on Sunday in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, Tiger Woods once again showed the world why he just may be the greatest golfer of all time.

Due to his recent successes, including two consecutive victories in the Buick Open and the WGC, Woods appears poised to capture his fifth PGA Championship title this week at Hazeltine Golf Club in Minnesota. A victory would tie Woods with Jack Nicklaus and Walter Hagen on the PGA Championship’s all-time win list.

Even though Woods has not won a major championship since the 2008 U.S. Open, he proved this past Sunday why he should be the favorite in every major championship he plays in. Though he has confidence as he prepares for this week’s PGA Championship, due to his past success at Hazeltine (a runner-up finish in the 2002 PGA Championship), Woods’ record at Firestone should also not be overlooked.

With his seventh victory at Firestone, Woods became the first golfer to win a tournament at the same course seven times. Along with rewriting the history books once again, Woods also saved his best golf for when it matters the most – on the weekend, as he shot bookend 65s to defeat Padraig Harrington and Robert Allenby by four shots.

“It feels good. I’ve always felt comfortable here (at Firestone),” Woods told reporters after finishing his final round.

When asked if his golf season would be a success without a major championship victory, Woods replied, “If you would have asked me at the beginning of the year before I even played whether I'd have five wins by now, I couldn’t see it, because walking 18 holes was going to be a task. It’s been a success to come back and play again.”

However, Woods will surely be ready to add another major championship to his victory total this week at Hazeltine to ensure that his 2009 season will not be remembered only for wins at the Buick Open or the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but for his victory at the 2009 PGA Championship as well.
