Charlotte is the second largest banking city in the US and people move here for those types of jobs, despite the fact that banks are having issues in today’s marketplace. Although the Queen City is not considered a “Big City”, it certainly has its perks. Coming from Detroit myself over 8 years ago, I found the metro area to be a nice balance of city life as well as peaceful small towns.

The uptown area is great for young professionals and is becoming increasingly popular for new families as well as many retirees as a place to settle, but in particular, First Time Home Buyers.

As noted on Charlotte's Got A Lot, Prevention Magazine recently named the Queen City the best “Walking City” in North Carolina. Self Magazine also named Charlotte one of “Five Cities with Big Outdoor Appeal” for features like its Public Art Walking Tour, accessible museums such as the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, and nearby outdoor excursions like the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

A local Real Estate Broker, Kathy Byrnes with RE/MAX at the Lake explains a few more reasons to love the Charlotte Metro area. “The weather, the beauty, and the opportunity. It is an ideal place to live for people of all ages. If you are considering relocating, consider this area as a top spot. From the lake living and golf courses to mountains and beaches, you are centrally located for every need and want. Home prices are ideal for buyers and we are holding strong even in a down economy.”

With all of the unique outdoor activities and exciting nightlife, this town is perfect for what we call prime first time home buyers. More and more people between the ages of 25 and 29 are moving to this area either in search of a banking job or just a better lifestyle. Values are holding much stronger than many parts of the country which can be a large concern if you are looking to buy your first home.

William Bryant of WT Bryant Appraisals notes that “the market is beginning to change for the better and values are starting to look more stable in most areas. There is great optimism that we are getting out of this real estate funk. Values are looking better and purchases are on the rise. Now is the time to buy more than ever.”

On Saturday, August 29th, Platinum Funding Solutions has teamed up with local experts to sponsor a Free First Time Home Buyers Seminar at the North Stone Country Club. With all the new information coming out and changing what seems to be daily, public awareness is the key. There are a lot of opportunities out there and it is a buyer’s market right now. Surprisingly 7 out of 10 people don’t know about the tax credit available or how to qualify. Due to a provision in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, taxpayers who haven’t owned a primary residence in at least three years are considered "first time home buyers" and are eligible for a tax credit of up to $8,000.

Come check out the happy median between the extreme winters of the north and the brutal summers of the Deep South. We have all 4 seasons but each one manages to be fairly mild. Don’t miss out on this exceptional area if you are considering a move. It’s a great time for first time home buyers and an even better time to buy in Charlotte.
