Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said today that he thinks the western countries are not involved in the recent post-election violence and movement in Iran. He said foreign influences is not to blame for Iran's post-election violence.

Today's CNN referring to Iran's state-run news reports writes Ayatollah Khamenei warned that courts should not use "rumors" to prosecute alleged post-election detainees.

Khamenei specifically said the following. "I don't accuse the leaders of the recent incidents of being affiliated with foreign countries, including the United States and Britain, since the issue has not been proven for me," Ayatollah Khamenei told a group of university students on Wednesday, Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

"But there is no doubt that the events were planned, no matter whether their leaders knew it or not."

Earlier on Sunday, Iran's intelligent minister Gholam-Hosein Mohseni Ejei had blamed the Western countries for stirring up protests in Iran. The British Embassy in Tehran "played a heavy role in the recent disturbances," he said, adding that the United States led the effort.

However, today, according to Iran's state media the country's supreme leader Khamenei takes a more balanced approach saying the country can't act on rumors and that he has not been given proven information of Western meddling in Iran.
