A farmer in Farm Town

Flowers and plants are not my specialization. No, its not that I wouldn’t love a nice garden full of flowers and trees and with a bunch with vegetables in a corner, I wish I had one. Alas, I’m not good on that. There are times I see a beautiful plant and take it home. I watering it and take care of it with a religious manner, yet this last couple of weeks only.

Must be that summer, many years ago! Traumatic experience. My parents were away for vacations and for a whole months my brothers and I , after a long day at work , after cooking and housekeeping, we had to water three gardens. My moms, in our house, my dad’s garden in his office building and a farm bonus, thanks to my mother, hers friend’s and neighbor garden.

So, either it was that summer or I’m adopted and I don’t know it. Don’t laugh, I m serious! You are laughing and I can see you. I wish I had pictures and videos to prove my statements. Both my grandmother had beautiful gardens especially my granny from my mother side. She had a special gift. As for my parents, they love their gardens and the vegetables they grow are delicious. Yes, maybe I’m adopted.

And nowadays, I’m a farmer, a virtual one. Yes, it’s true! Honestly! I have a farm in Farm Town game. But let me tell you the story from the beginning. For a period of four months I was kind of homeless. I had to spend many days during the week, in my parents’ house where I had to take care of my mother. She broke her leg and she needed assistance. There are many year I left my parents house and live on my own. So it’s not my home, as it use to be. And the days I could be in my home, I felt like a visitor. My stuffs and my life where spread around and me, between those two homes, I felt totally homeless. Oxymoron, I know, but this is how it felt.

Recently my mom has recovered and I could move back to my home. I was happy, but yet it didn’t fell much home. I couldn’t relax. My unsatisfied need for “my place” was torturing me. I wanted desperately my “home” back. And suddenly, out of nowhere, through a request of a Facebook friend, I found it. She asked me to be her neighbor in Farm Town, and this is how I came across that game. When you register, you create your avatar and then you see in your computer screen, yourself in the middle of a small piece of land. That was it!!! The place I was looking for!!!. I found it !!!

So, I started walking the road from level 1 to 34 , the highest one and I did it. And now I’m the owner of a big farm which I build from scratch. During those times I had to plow the fields, plants the seeds, waiting patience for them to grow and then harvest them. You plow, gain experience and level up. You harvest your crops and with the money you gain by selling them, you buy new seeds and more land to expand your farm, acquire houses animals and other building. In brief, that is the game.

Apart from your farm, there is a market place and a inn, where you can interact with other farmers in real time. Like in real life, with all pro and cons. You can hire them to help you in your farm or get hired and gain money and experience, you can chat with them make friends and help each other to level up. You can play that game on your own but with friends is more fun.

I befriended with some other farmers too. We worked together, chat and had fun. And with their help, it didn’t took long to reach at that lever where you get the message “ You can buy a farm house now !” Woohoo !!! I had save the money and the next second I bought that house and put it in the middle of my farm. That date was a milestone for my journey. I had a house. No homeless anymore. Big smile on the face.

Yes, I’m back to my home now! Working in my farm was like meditating. Sorting thing out thinking or not thinking. There where times that my mind was totally empty. That refreshing feeling, that peaceful silence of an empty mind, if you know what I mean. Times were tough and still are in my life. But my farm was my shelter where I was plowing and make the grounds ready to receive the seeds., choosing what seed to use, what I wanted to achieve and then when my veggies grow, that moments that you reach to the 100% of growing process, makes me smile.

That farm is not a real farm. Its just a virtual piece of land , floating in the cyberspace. Farm Town is just another game, one might say. Yes, it is. I know that. Life is a game also. It has its rules, limitations, difficulties and rewards. And sometimes the prize its big , sometimes others its just a moments of joy. But that moment you can say “Yes, I made it !!” its priceless. And it deserves any effort.

Ops, my crops are ready. Have to go.
