eBay Sells Skype For More Than 2 Billion

Earlies this morning we wrote that eBay may announce a Skype sale deal as early as today. Well, the news came this morning that eBay announced the deal.

According to the Marketwatch, eBay announced a deal to sell Skype for 2.7 billion dollars. Earlier there were offers of 2 billion dollars where were not enough. Skype is set to earn more than 600 billion dollars this year.

The Skype buyer is an investor group led by Silver Lake and includes Index Ventures, Andreessen Horowitz and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

"Under the terms of the deal, eBay will receive about $1.9 billion in cash and a note for $125 million. The online auction giant will retain a 35% equity stake in Skype. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year," reports the Marketwatch.

eBay shares (EBAY) are currently trading at 22.80, +0.66, +2.98%.
