Luxury Chalet Operator Files for Voluntary Liquidation

Just recently the travel industry saw the fall of one of the leading luxury chalet operators: Descent International. The company which offered high-end luxury chalets in Switzerland and lavish ski holidays in France has announced that it has gone into voluntary liquidation.

Offering some of the top luxury ski chalets in the business since 1997, Descent reportedly suffered recent financial difficulties that led to the company closing its doors. It's a surprising downfall for the high-end operator who offered lavish holiday homes with impeccable service to match.

The private homes offered within the Descent International portfolio ranged from simple elegance to over-the-top magnificence. Grand master suites, personal chauffeurs, in-house spa treatments, gourmet chefs, indoor pools and saunas, private wine cellars and unbeatable locations in exquisite ski resorts were just some of the amenities synonymous with the company’s vacation rentals.

Despite its success as a chalet operator since 1997, Descent reportedly suffered recent financial difficulties that led to the company closing its doors. It's a surprising downfall for the high-end operator who offered lavish holiday homes with impeccable service to match.

Founder Kit Harrison told the Times Online, “It’s a very sad situation. We’ve tried very hard to save Descent, but in the end that has not been possible.”

Reportedly, the London-based company had foreseen its impending financial downturn and attempted to reinvigorate profits by maintaining a “business as usual” plan to receive deposits from renters for the 2009 winter season. Unfortunately, the company’s collapse has all but guaranteed that those renters will lose their deposits as well as their holiday plans.

The rental company’s spectacular portfolio of high-end chalets attracted a guest list of boldface names. Some of Descent’s elite clientele included Prince Andrew the Duke of York, novelist J.K. Rowling, Rowan Atkinson as well as Victoria and David Beckham. The Duke of York allegedly lost thousands of pounds from his deposit on an impeccable private chalet rental in the renowned Swiss ski resort, Klosters.

Descent asks that anyone who has booked their services and chalets to please contact David Stephenson at David Rubin & Partners on DavidStephenson@drpartners.com for more information.
