Safety officials are informing of a huge Volvo recall due to a software glitch. While we know which cars are involved in the current Volvo recall, there are conflicting information about the number of vehicles involved in this recall.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) release, which has the campaign number 09V343000, the potential number of vehicles affected in this recall is 11993. However, a Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports that 26,000 vehicles that use the turbo motor T6 are involved in this recall.

The problem may inhibit the start of the fuel pump. In some cases the driver may be able to drive the car a short distance, but then the engine may stall. In certain conditions this may lead to a crash.

NHTSA informs that Volvo dealers will download software to the vehicles' CEM free of charge.

Those Volvo cars that are still in dealerships will be repaired before selling. This recall, NHTSA says, will begin "on or before September 30, 2009."

Drivers, who's cars are effects with this recall can call VOLVO at 1-800-458-1552.
